"Ritual Vessal with Jaw Bone"

Thrown in two pieces and then attached.Using Laguana's Soldate 60, c/10 clay.
The top piece is thrown as a closed form and then cut open using a pin tool. The openings in the base are cut out using a fettling knife.
The pot was bisque fired in a gas kiln at cone 04, ( about 1850 degrees F.) then refired in an electric kiln at the same temperature using underglazes. Six firings with different overlays of underglaze were done to achieve this effect. The interior is done in gold leaf, and burnished.
The handle is sculpted out of the same clay and attached with slip. The leather is wrapped around the jaw bone and fixed with brass pins that are glued into holes drilled into the clay base, for a primitive look .The jaw bone was sculpted after a possum's lower jaw, and then waxed with Carnuba wax
Height 38 cms x 15 cms wide at base.
This piece was influenced by the Korean ceramics of the Silla Kingdom, ( 57BC - 9th century ).
