I had visited the temple in March 1997 with my husband and a friend. Both the temple and the massacre made a deep impression.
The nightmarish thoughts of how it must have been to have tried to survive in the midst of this horror was eventually channelled into a pot. I took the images of Egyptian funerary barges and merged them together with the architectural style of Hatshepsut. The decorative triangles number those killed on 17/11 97.
