Decorated by the spontaneous reaction of the elements, the effect cannot be repeated, making each piece unique!
The pots are individually thrown on the wheel, turned and burnished, a painstaking process which gives the pot a subtle sheen. They are then "biscuit" fired to 950C in an electric kiln.
Now comes the magic!
The final firing is in a saggar in a small gas kiln. The pots are fired individually or in small batches in a mixture of salt, copper carbonate, sawdust and various organic materials. Each firing is different. Each pot is unique.
