Each year the Potfest potters are invited to make a special piece to a particular theme, which are all displayed in the main entrance hall of the show - this year's was "A Birthday Cake for ....?"
Angie & Paul Boyer from "Craft and Design" magazine (formerly "The Craftsman") award the prize of a feature article and front cover design to a potter whose work and competition piece most impress them.

The Birthday Cake theme was chosen as Michael and Andrew of the Northumbria Craft Pottery were celebrating their 20th year in business. On Saturday night they hosted a large cocktail "Tie and Tiara" party at the Potfest social.
